Start: Begin by speaking to Reldo, the librarian of Varrock Castle.
Requirements: The ability
to kill either a level 2 or 23 enemy, depending on the gang you choose to belong to.
What You Need: A friend who
hasn't yet started the quest, and 20gp.
Getting Started
First off, you're going to need a friend to help you with this quest, so find someone who hasn't yet started
it. Both of you should speak to Reldo, the Varrock Castle librarian and ask him for a quest. He mentions a book
in his library that may have a quest for you, and it can be found in the middle bookcase in the center of the room, facing
away from the desk. After reading it, ask Reldo if he knows anything else, and he tells you to talk to Baraek.
Now that both of you have started the quest, decide on the gang that each of you will join. Apparently the Shield
was broken in half, and each gang has 1 piece. You'll each have to join a different gang to get both halves, and the best
way to make sure that you both get the reward is to get 2 of each half, and then trade one for another.
The Phoenix Gang
Baraek can be found south of the castle, near the fur stall. Ask him about the Phoenix Gang, which he'll only
tell you about if you give him 20gp. Along the south wall should be a small building, with a ladder marked with a Dungeon
icon on your map. Go down the ladder and talk to Straven.
Tell him that you know who they are, and that you would like to offer your services. He wants you to get an
Intelligence Report from Johnny the Beard, so head to the Blue Moon Inn and kill the level 2 Johnny the Beard. Pick
up the scroll that he drops, and bring it back to Straven.
Straven will give you a key, and you'll also be able to get into the hideout. Once inside, head to the far southwest
room to find a chest with a Broken Shield inside. Drop the shield and take another from the chest, and then pick up
the first to ensure a fair trade later on.
Now leave the hideout and walk around the building to the front, and open the east door by using your Key with
it. Go up the ladder and kill the level 23 Weapon Master and take the 2 Phoenix Crossbows on the floor. Give
these to your friend in the Blackarm Gang. You can also give the key to your Blackarm Gang friend to get the crossbows instead.
The Blackarm Gang
After speaking to Reldo, talk to the Tramp just south of the Sword Shop and ask about the alley behind
him. He says that the Blackarm gang can be found back there, and ask if they would let you join. Talk to Katrine in
the Blackarm hideout, and tell her that you've heard that they're the Blackarm Gang. Ask her if you can become part of the
gang, and she tells you to steal 2 Phoenix Crossbows.
Give her the crossbows that your friend from the Phoenix Gang gave to you, and she makes you part of the gang.
Now go upstairs and search the cupboard on the east wall for a Broken Shield. Drop it and take another from the cupboard,
and then take the first half to be sure that you both get the quest reward.
Claiming the Reward
Once each of you have 2 of the same half, trade for each other's half. Now you should both have 1 of each half,
making a full shield. You really only need 1 of each half, but having 2 of each ensures that you both get the reward. Take
these to the Museum Curator in east Varrock who will give you each 2 Certificates. Bring the Certificate to King Roald
to collect your reward!
